SALT IS HISTORYSalt is a conductive element, but also a thread that connects stories. These small white crystals that wash over the estuaries of Muros have shaped many cultures that considered it as valuable as gold—if not more. In fact, it was once used as a form of payment in the Roman Empire, giving rise to the term we know today as “salary.”

SALT IS OTANTUSBut we don’t need to go back to Rome—here, salt has also played a leading and defining role in our cuisine, economy, and landscape. The scenery surrounding our hotel is washed not only by the sea, but also by numerous halophytic plants such as *Otanthus maritimus*, which gives us our name.
This plant, known as “cottonweed,” thrives in salty soils and grows without fear, demonstrating its remarkable ability to adapt, its power to turn adversity into opportunity, and its capacity to flourish in the face of powerful storms.
